Patricia Lauber celebrated her birthday on February 5, 1924. She was born in New York City, but grew up in East Norwalk.\u00a0Ms. Lauber graduated from Wellesley College.<\/p>\n

She published more than 125 books during her career, many of them about science, striving to “make science both an entertaining as well as an enriching experience for children.” Titles such as\u00a0Adventure At Black Rock Cave<\/i> (1959) and Dinosaurs Walked Here and Other Stories Fossils Tell<\/i> (1992) are tributes to this credo, and to her knack for detailed and extensive research.<\/p>\n

In addition to writing books for young readers, Ms. Lauber worked\u00a0as an editor for\u00a0Scholastic Magazine<\/em>, later founding Science World<\/em> at Street & Smith, where she was the editor-in-chief, as well as being chief editor\u00a0in the topics of\u00a0science and mathematics at The New Book of Knowledge<\/em>.<\/p>\n

With over 125\u00a0titles to her credit, Patricia Lauber was a Newbery Honor winner in 1986 with\u00a0Volcano: Eruption and Healing of Mount St. Helens<\/i>.<\/p>\n

She died on March 12, 2010, at the age of 86.<\/p>\n
