They knew each other as children in Tennessee, both attended Tennessee State University in Nashville, married, and began collaborating in the early 1980s when they both reached turning points in unrelated careers.<\/p>\n<p>They eventually co-wrote more than 100 books. Most of their titles were biographies and nonfiction books about the history of African Americans.
