Paula Danziger was born on August 18th in Washington, D.C. Raised in Virginia and New Jersey, she earned a BA in English and an MA in reading. She taught junior and senior high, as well as college.
Her first book, The Cat Ate My Gymsuit, was published in 1974. She wrote over 25 books, including The United Tates of America, the Amber Brown series, and P.S. Longer Letter Later. For several years, Paula appeared monthly on Britain’s popular BBC-TV children’s program “Live and Kicking.” She traveled more than 30,000 miles each year, talking to kids and writers. She has been nominated for numerous awards.
Sadly, Paula Danziger died of complications from a heart attack on July 8, 2004. Her manuscripts, revisions, and correspondence are available for study at the University of Minnesota’s Children’s Literature Research Collection.
