Leonard Wibberley Mouse that Roared
John Treegates Musket Flint's Island

Leonard Wibberley was born on April 9, 1915 in Ireland. He wrote more than 50 books for children, some of them under the pen names of Patrick O’Connor and Christopher Webb.

His seven-volume Treegate series, set during the Revolutionary War and the War of 1812, is highly regarded for its concentration on characters and its wry sense of humor.

His novel for young adults, The Mouse That Roared, is still popular for its satirical view of American politics.

Wibberley lived for many years in California, until he died in 1983.

He wrote, “Basically it is for the child inside myself that I write my children’s books, for that child lives on into my more somber years.”
