Born on September 28th, Kate Douglas (Smith) Wiggin (1856-1923) was an American author and educator.
Although she is probably most known for writing Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm, she also organized the first free kindergarten in San Francisco. With her sister, she also established a training school for kindergarten teachers.
Her other books include The Story of Patsy, The Birds’ Christmas Carol, Timothy’s Quest, and Mother Carey’s Chickens.
