This time of year, I like to recommend books that make ideal holiday gifts.
As a kid, I was thrilled when there was a new story to read over the holidays and beyond.
But I especially liked books that could DO something. As an only child, I really liked books that would play with me.
Here’s a series of books by that American humorist, David LaRochelle, that I think fits this definition perfectly.
Do you have a storyteller in your family? Someone who draws? This series of books is a good gift decision.

The pages are dry erase marker boards and each book includes a dry erase marker.
Throughout the book, the characters ask the reader to help them out by drawing something or writing a part of the story.
AND the reader can erase everything they’ve done and tell a new story. It doesn’t get much better than that.

The art is sprightly and approachable, encouraging participation. Each book has a bright color palette, which I find cheerful. No doom or gloom here.
It’s a board book. And it’s affordable.
Besides, LaRochelle is funny and these books make me laugh.
Highly recommended.
